What do we know?
In order to have a synesthesia test, it would mean that there are objective ways of diagnosing the symptom. And by objective, it means, it cannot rely totally on the feedback that one may give, claiming to have this or that event relating with colors or sounds, etc. The fact is the research on the subject until now did not come to conclusive ways of doing so. We have to remember that we’re talking about a neurological state and that by itself raises the problem that science is simply not there yet. On top of that, because Synesthesia was not publicly acknowledged for such a long period, part because if its confusion with ideasthesia (Danko Nikolić) and also just generally thought as a misconceived idea or perception. To this day there are still a lot of loose ends, on where to search, how to disprove it or come to the conclusion that one person has it.
Synesthesia Test: The ones available
This said, there are some tests that target the most common way of Synesthesia. And that is known as color synesthesia. This type envolves the association of a number or letter with a color. I.e. W is purple. 4 is orange yellowish (being very specific with colors, btw is one of the trademarks of a synesthete).
Those tests consist of showing random letters and numbers and asking the person to pick a color to associate with. From the tests done until now, its proven that a person with color synesthesia will instantly make a connection between a color and a number/letter. It comes as logic in they’re minds. And a non-synesthete will be uncertain, less precise and will take much longer to complete the test. Rationalizing instead of using the synesthesia eye to pick a color in a glance. A non-synesthete will score 30/40% and a synesthete will score around 90%.
For the time being the best way to give a name to what you may have is by doing the old fashion thing of relating to one another’s feelings/experiences. So to do just that and show how there are so many people enthusiastic about the subject I did a test in videos, that you can see and relate with. Being honest with what you’ve experienced until now and with what documentaries and researchers know about it.
Hope it helps!
